«Kursk»

Plaster, enamel, 37x76, 2011
On August 12, 2000, a tragedy occurred in the Barents Sea that shook the entire world: the nuclear submarine cruiser of the Northern Fleet, the «Kursk», was lost with its entire crew. This, the largest disaster in the history of the Navy, left no one indifferent; all of Russia, the entire world, watched the tragedy unfold... The artist seems to have relived what the Russian sailors had to endure in the final minutes of their lives. It was unbearably difficult to convey the hope with which mothers, fathers, wives, children, and simply all people prayed for the salvation of the sailors, hoping for a miracle... But the miracle did not happen... However, this does not mean that we can forget this tragedy.

Alexey Yuryevich Golubev-Brodsky
The nation prayed, but the nation came too late,
Sunk throat-deep in lies, as in pitch;
The living soul pounded with hammering blows,
But hard it is to reach the truth in the gloom.

They were suffocating, and their skin was bursting,
Suffocation and pain tore at their mouths;
For our sins, the harvest of death is multiplied,
And bitter salt oozed and consumed them.

And the eternal heavens called their souls —
Their honor and dignity are not needed here,
The heavenly brotherhood has claimed them as its own,
And we before them are foolish and absurd.

For the blindness of deeds, for fox-like cunning—
Purify yourself, and seek salvation.
Souls are jammed, like the conning tower hatch,
And fistulas fester with the leprosy of money!

To ask forgiveness, weeping in repentance:
Here is the shore — here is the sea — here is the sky — here is the Light!
And there is still a holy truth on earth —
There is no salvation on the path without truth.

Other works by the artist
They are imbued with lyricism and philosophy. The works are united by their narrative and dramatic action, yet they remain diverse in composition.
The sculptural bas-reliefs astound with their meticulous rendering of every detail.
