Мама! Любовью ты хранишь меня, родная.

Zoya Vladimirovna Kozlovskaya

The artwork «Mother» is executed in a cool blue and light-blue color palette, yet this does not diminish the warmth of the images depicted in this work. For this artist, the mother is a collective image: a mother-grandmother, a mother-mother, and a mother-girl. All three stages that a woman passes through from birth to death are reflected and portrayed in this piece.
The mother-grandmother protects us and our love like a crystal ball, as if afraid of accidentally breaking it. She warms us with her hands, prays for us, and wards off all hardships. This maternal heart works tirelessly and «turns gray» ahead of time. It is this heart that can understand and forgive everything, love unconditionally, and it is this heart that we must always remember!

«Mother»
I don't know where I should begin,
I long to say so very much...
How can one express in words
The love for my one and only, dearest one?
I'm always caught up in my affairs,
Do not be sad, my darling dear,
Forgive the disarray of life—
You are here, and so my days are not in vain.
Mother! With love you guard me, my dear one,
You take upon yourself your children's sins.
Mother! A holy tear has rolled down your cheek,
Do not weep—hold me close and comfort me, as in childhood.
Mother! I will tenderly touch your palms,
And feel the warmth of your weary hands.
Mother! Grant peace to my soul's deep aches.
I pray, O Lord, spare us from partings.
Live on — do not scold, but love,
Wait for me and drive the sorrow far,
Know that there is nothing dearer on this earth
Than your eyes, your hands, and your heart so warm.
I know your heart has grown so tired,
Mother, dearest — my happiness, my all,
Rest now, and say a prayer for me,
So that day by day, my path grows light.
To speak with you until the break of dawn,
To seek forgiveness in my deep repentance,
To gaze my fill into your loving eyes,
And pray that you may live much longer still.
You are my safest and most steadfast haven,
My solace—as the Lord Himself has said.
I love you so very much, my Mother,
And guard the light of love like a holy icon.
